I bought a refurbished PC about a year ago... what's the problem!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • The PC (A Compap) has the Windows product key sticker on the PC as it should.  The only way this is not a valid copy is if someone else has registered my product key. I don't think I should be punished for that activity.

  • What is the specific error you are getting?

When your PC was refurbished, Windows may have been reinstalled with a different product key than the one on your sticker. This may be one reason why the Windows is non-genuine. The solution for this is to backup everything on your pc and re-install Windows with the correct product key.

  • You can run this tool http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 and see if the last 15 digits of the product key matches the last 15 digits of the product key on the sticker.

    Hope it helps
