RE: Developer Workstation Setup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been an Solutions Architect for years but I'm transitioning over to being a Enterprise Developer now.

What is the most productive developer workstation setup? What does Microsoft use?

I'm trying to pick out monitors but I need some guidance. I have a power workstation(HP Z840 Studio) but I need the monitor hook-up.

    Any advice?

I want an arrangement that supports web, enterprise and HoloLens/Unity Development

Here are some setups that I've seen and my comments are above them:

    1. 2 Monitor setup with Horizontal and Vertical Display. I've seen this one a lot.

    2. Traditional Developer

    3. 3 Screen Developer. I don't know if you really need this. I consider this more like an Ops Management arrangement.

  • Hi friend,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Refer to your description, your issue is about the developer workstation and our forum is to discuss the Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.

As far as I know, there have many monitors like SAMSUNG 4K 21.5. You should setup the workstation per your development requirement and it is depending on yourself J. If I made any misunderstanding or mistake, please accept my apology.

BTW, I found some developer workstation that recommended by other community members, please have a look at this: web developer workstation

  • First, my name is not stargorg...

Next, I was looking for best practices. I know I can setup the workstation the way I want. I was hoping someone from Microsoft with a developer background would post comments here. Don't feel the need to reply to everything posted okay?

Most of the major pc manufacturer's have trained specialists to help with hardware selection / specification. May be better to ask them rather than rely on anonymous forums users suggestions.

  • I'll call HP today. I worked at HP and most of the hardware specialists knew nothing about software development but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the comments.

  • HP doesn't provide system design guidance on non datacenter products anymore...only account management, lol. I'm betting they are probably hoping customers will just by the most expensive items and move on. I was drilled by the sales rep manager over the phone. This guy sounded so desperate.
