Can't successfully back up my Vista system to HP MediaVault 2020 (Linux) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello OneCare gurus!

I have an HP Mediavault mv2020 (Generation 1). For those not familiar with it, it runs a Linux 2.4 kernel. I had been successfully using the NTI Shadow backup software that comes with the Mediavault, but I'm trying to use OneCare to backup my system instead. The only real reason I want to switch to OneCare is that I am annoyed by the "Status: Fair" display.

However, when I try to backup my files to my Media Vault, I get errors. I'm not able to replicate those errors, as OneCare backup is stuck at 2%. When the backup fails, and I go back to the Windows Live OneCare page, it shows me that I still have 166k files that haven't been backed up.

So, my main question is: Does OneCare back up to a Linux server? Or any known issues with backing up to the HP MediaVault? I'm guessing that to get this to work successfully, I will not to back it up to a Windows-based server.

Follow-up question: If OneCare and MediaVault do not play nice together, can I disable the "Start Backup" option, so I don't get that annoying "Status: Fair" display?

    Thanks for your time.

  • Hello Mr Rosenkranz, I am not familiar with the HP Mediavault. The issue with One Care may be the server or it could be the NTI backup software. I suggest contacting support for help with troubleshooting this issue. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

To turn off One Care Backup and restore your status to good open One care>Change Settings>Backup>Configure Backup and uncheck "Turn on backup on this PC".
