The exams to be completed before attempting the MCPD 70-519 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had completed the MCTS Certification 70-536 and 70-528(visual studio 2008). I wish to enroll for MCPD 70-519(visual studio 2010). Microsoft doesnt explain anywhere about the prerequisites needs to be completed if the candidate who mastered MCTS in visual studio 2008 and  wish to attempt MCPD in visual studio 2010.

Could anyone please tell me if there any upgrade needed since i completed the prerequisites in visual studio 2008.

  • There are no prerequisites for taking 70-519, in the sense that you can take it any time you wish even if you have never taken any other exam before. However, it will not give you an MCPD certification until you complete all the other exams that are required for the MCPD. And no, those individual exams cannot be upgraded from Visual Studio 2008. The only available upgrade will move you from the MCPD on Visual Studio 2008 into the MCPD in Visual Studio 2010. You can take exam 70-523 to opgrade your MCPD:Web developer from 3.5 to 4.0. But this is only useful if you completed ALL of the exams for version 2008, including 70-564. If you only did the "prerequisites" (the MCTS exams) then there is no upgrade path, and you will need to take the whole series of MCTS exams on Visual Studio 2010 y you wish to attain an MCPD on version 4.0.

  • Yes, that's precisely the purpose 70-523. If you complete the MCPD 3.5, then passing 70-523 will automatically give you the MCPD 4.0 _and_ it will also upgrade your three MCTS on 3.5 into 4.0. But this only works if you complete the MCPD 3.5.

  • if i completed 70-523 exam it will be treated as an "upgrade" from MCPD 3.5 to MCPD 4.0. so once i completed MCPD 3.5, all I have to do to get the MCPD 4.0 is take 70-523??
