Can connect with ip address but not with server name

Question
-
Just set up my ex470 for the first time. I have a di-604 connected to a cable modem (suddenlink internet). The ex470 set-up fine and then as soon as the setup process got to the install connector software, it would not find the server. I am able to connect through RDC to the actual ip address on my network (192.168.0.104), but not the actual server name blac***-***. It won't find the server and the connector says it is not online. However, in the RDC console, the server is happily functioning, connected to the internet, updating and running happily. Any ideas how to get my computers on my network to see and work with the WHS?Tuesday, November 24, 2009 2:18 PM

What happens when you try to ping your server by name from one of the other PCs on your network? How about by IP address? Can you run the command ipconfig /all on one of your home computers, and your server, and post the results?
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)Tuesday, November 24, 2009 2:36 PMModerator -

Here are the ipconfig all results: My wife did this and sent it to me, so I wasn't able to check that everything was powered on. I left it all on this morning.
C:\Users\todd>ipconfig /all

You said the ping times out. Does it try to ping to the same IP address as the one you know for the home server?
Eventually take a look on the FAQ How to Troubleshoot Network Connection Problems with Windows Home Server and check, if you see something obvious (besides trying the workaround with the hosts file).

I added a host file on my computers with the ip address of the server and now it all works. However, the WHS has lost the ability to connect to the internet. ???

Can you post ipconfig /all output from your server?
Usually the "no Internet connection" issue happens, if you have set the IP address manually, but forgot to add a Default Gateway or a DNS server entry (or have a typo there).
