  • Here are a lot of problems with the Control Panel / Systemsteuerung but why ?

    You can access most of the things directly be typing these at run/cmd :

    appwiz.cpl     -     Add/Remove Software

    hdwwiz.cpl     -     Hardware add/solve problems
    inetcpl.cpl     -     Internet Explorer Options

    main.cpl     -     Mouse....
    ncpa.cpl     -     Network Conections
    odbccp32.cpl     -     ODBC
    powercfg.cpl     -     Power Management
    sysdm.cpl     -     Sytem
    telephon.cpl     -     Modem
    timedate.cpl     -     Time & Date
    wuaucpl.cpl     -     Windows Update

    other usefull :
    devmgmt.msc     -     Device Manager
    diskmgmt.msc     -     Disk Management
    compmgmt.msc     -     Computer Management

  • It's a lot easier to just find the tool you need in Control Panel/Administrative Tools, rather than try to remember 20 or so somewhat cryptic file names.

  • You can also restore the link to the control panel by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting properties then go to the start menu tab and select customize. You can then set the control panel to show as a link on the start menu.

  • Why hide the control panel?  If the server is acting up enough to require someone to log straight into it, they should have access to the tools to troubleshoot without having to dig around...  (Remember a user is never supposed to log straight in, only use the client connector...)
