CWA on x64 fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can I install CWA (2007) on a x64 box?

If so, when I try I get that error message:

ISAPI Filter 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007\Communicator Web Access\cwaauth\cwaauth.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images built for a AMD64 processor architecture. The data field contains the error number. To learn more about this issue, including how to troubleshooting this kind of processor architecture mismatch error, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=29349.

    Thanks for any help

  • Running OCS on x64, which technically supported for some cases, is pretty flaky from what I've seen and you get stuck dealing with things like this. You'll have a MUCH easier time if you just go 32-bit.

Running into exactly the same error.

According to the Office Communications Server 2007 Document: Supportability Guide

CWA is supported on X64, running IIS with WOW64

Table 3 shows support for Office Communications Server on WOW64. Please note the following:

    ·         There is no 64-bit edition of Office Communications Server 2007.

    ·         Windows Server for Itanium-based systems is not a supported operating system.

    ·         The 64-bit .NET Framework must be used when a supported 64-bit operating system is deployed.

So doc says you need 64-bit .NET framework, however cwaauth.dll is 32 bit !!!

So I am thouroughly confused... does the setting adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 need to be set to true or false ? mine is set false (needed for other apps on that server).

Dont even attempt to install OCS on x64 bit Operating Systems.  Although the planning documentation for OCS 2007 states certain configurations of WOW are supported, Microsoft is updating the planning document.  Only 32-bit OS will be supported.  Read my article on my blog for more information.
