Is it possible to mark a campaign activity as distributed, without creating any activities in CRM? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    Background:

at my current client we have a CRM Dynamics 2011 on-premise marketing issue. The campaign activity entity is used as "parent" for both activities performed in 1) CRM and 2) activities performed in an external application. One campaign activity is "distributed" to either CRM or to the external application.

    1) These activities are performed and logged with standard CRM functionality (phone call), and created in CRM by distributing the campaign activity with standard methods.

    2) These activities are performed in an external application, and responses are batch loaded back to CRM. The activities are created in the external application by "distributing" the campaign activity, but not in the same way as in CRM. The distribution is done by pressing a custom button in the campaign activity ribbon, which calls some custom logic for invoking a web service in the external application.

    Problem:
Multiple campaign activity can have the same campaign parent. When a new marketing list is added to the campaign, the user is asked whether the marketing list should be added to non-distributed campaign activities. If the user choose "yes", the marketing list is also added to the campaign activities "distributed" to the external application, since these not are truly distributed in a CRM context. We do not want the marketing list added to any distibuted campaign activities, either distributed to CRM or to the external application.

    Questions:
What happens behind the scene when a campaign activity is distributed?

Is it possible to mark a campaign activity as distributed, without creating any activities in CRM?

    Thanks,

    Brg Erlend
