windows xp activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I finally managed to locate my lost activation key using Belarc Advisor so I'm just about to reinstall windows xp.  With regards to the installation, my original disk is service pack 1 with a further cd for service pack 2, this is a bit annoying as i have to stuff around with two cds.  I can obtain a copy of windows xp professional from work which contains both service packs, can I do my installation using this cd  (even though it's professional) and use my own activation key (home edition)?  I'm of course assuming that the professional features won't be activated then. I have a suspicion that I can't and I have to go through both disks instead Sad

  • Sorry, but a product key for Windows XP Home Edition will not work with a Windows XP Professional CD.

You can make your own Windows XP Home Edition CD with SP2 integrated by following these directions:
