Update frozen console RRS feed

  • Question

  • I did the last update and my server console is frozen at installing IE8. I can't get out of this. I tried rebooting the WHS several times, no success.  The console is not usable at all.

  • Here are steps that solved the problem for me.

    1. Run the updates
    2. Installer freezes when installing IE8
    3. Click the cancel button
    4. On my Home Server nothing happened after clicking the cancel button.
    4. Close the Home Server Console window.
    5. Open the logon window for Home Server.
    6. Reset the console; it's in the Options dropdown under the console password text box. That should free up your console. In my case it did work.  If not you  you can shut your server off by pressing and releasing the power button on the back of the server (HP).
    7. Login to Home Server.
8 IE 8 installer screen will show up the next time you login.    Finish the install process and you are ready to go.

Can you logon to the server desktop?  If so, what happens if you run the Console from there?  Can you uninstall IE8 then reboot the server?

  • This also happened to me . What I did was cancel the update and then restarted the server. After the server restatred it seemed that IE8 did infact install and the set up continued as normal for IE8. I belive I logged on to the Desktop to complete the install from there. Hope that helps.
