Windows Server 2016 MCSA

    Question

  • Hi,

Has anyone seen practice exams for the training kits that make up the qualification for MCSA 2016? I have books for 70-740, 70-741 and the book for 70-742 just seems to be missing in action. All the books I have are from Microsoft press, the 70-742 book is not even published yet and my delivery date keeps getting messed about. Personally I think this is pretty poor from Microsoft. I was getting hounded by a training company to do the MCSA in 5 days. I kept putting it off as I had not read the books yet. The company called back saying that they have now extended the course as things like Nano server was causing issues or complexities with training. Makes me really wonder if instructor led training is worth a try as I get the impression they coach you in answering exams and not in being a good engineer. Really annoyed with Microsoft right now...really annoyed!

Cheers, and thanks in advance for any help!

  • Hi Cheebelly,

I've noticed the MS Press and Sybex books for 742 are available on Amazon.  I've also noticed the legit test sites MeasureUp and Transcender have test exams for the 740 and 741, but oddly not 742.  There are some good training resources on YouTube, the MVA and on Channel9 if they help you?

  • Hi Cheebelly,

Yeah I'd expect the 742 test engines to follow shortly.

I've checked and noticed this good length video, though it says its in development - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rURd6zocTUY.

Hopefully you'll find lots of useful prep here too - https://channel9.msdn.com/Tags/windows-server-2016.

  • Hi Stu,

I just found the Transcender practice exams yesterday. They still dont have the exam for Identity though, so hopefully that is in the pipeline.

MeasureUp and Koenig hit me with replies for training courses...advertising basically. Fed up with sales reps trying to sell me courses. I have the first two MS-Press books, again just waiting on the book for 70-742 Identity.

Actually never thought of YouTube. I'll have a look in to that today.

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Just for info...

Bought the Transcender 70-740 practice exam. They also come with a virtual lab. I have literally just got them installed just now. There is a bit of flaffing around as my Anti Virus product was n't happy with the EXE files. All looks good at the moment. The cost was USD $248 and UK Sterling £193. Thought it was worth a punt, it's a years license or subscription. Relevant links are...

    Main page = https://www.transcender.com/certprep/certification/microsoft.kap

    70-740 Quick Review page = https://www.transcender.com/quick-review/microsoft/70-740.kap

On the quick review page you'll see the virtual labs mentioned, if you scroll down through the review or details pane. At the top right there is an option to add the labs to the shopping cart alongside the practice exam.

Hope that helps...I'll use this thread to update my experience as I move through the exams...just in case someone finds it useful.

    Cheers
