Cleanup won't run RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can't get the cleanup function to run on my WHS. I have two 500 Gbyte SATA drives and an extrenal 1 Tbyte usb drive. I backup nine different computers. I've been getting periodic errors of various individual backups and I've gone in and dleted the individual data in the bckup folder on the WHS drives (via RDC). I've run repair and this passes without a problem but every time I try to run the cleanup function it gets only a few minutes into the cleanup and then says it can't do the cleanup due to errors. The disks are healthy, I've run chkdsk on them without a problem. One of my systems has backlups going back to early july and I can't get rid of all the extra backaups. The rest of my machines have had their backups restarted on numerous occasions because of database errors. This is really frustrating. Could it be the external drive causing the problem. I don't remember habing thses problems before I added the USB drive. I have a thrid SATA drive on order and a PCI to SATA card coming too.  I plan to install that and then remove the USB drive. If anyone has any other suggestions or words of wisdom, I am more than willing to hear them.  Thanks.

Did you run chkdsk /r on all 3 drives (including the volume mount points for the secondary drives)?  In other words, not just the C and D partition?

It's a definite possibility.  Other users have had problems with USB drives when they are part of the storage pool.

My suggestion at this point (assuming you ran chkdsk /r on all 3 drives) would be to restore whatever files you need from your old backups, then delete the entire database.  Once you've done that, remove the USB drive from the storage pool, then start over with your backups again.
