Primary drive died RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well, after many years of faithful service my primary drive is croaking.  I have searched the forum and believe I know what to do.

One itty, bitty issue.  It can't find my original disk with the original product code.  I went into the WHS Console and found my product ID.  Is that the same as my product code?  A lot of numbers with an OEM in the middle, does that sound right?

  • Your product key is not the same as the product ID in the console, no. There are programs which claim to be able to recover the product key from a functional Windows installation. I don't recommend any of these programs specifically, but they do exist. There may be other methods as well, since the product key is stored (in encrypted form) in the registry.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
