VSS writers are not stable whenever CA Arcserve backup tool initiate the backup (VM hosted in Hyper-V) RRS feed

    Hi Team,

    We have been facing VSS writers issue , whenever the third party (Arcserve) tool initiate the backup (It is VM hosted in Hyper-V)

    We have been asked to reboot the server to make VSS writers stable. Please help us to fix the issue.

    Scenario:

    Step 1: All the VSS writers are stable before backup starts.

    Step 2: Once Arcserve initiate the backup (image level), all the VSS writers went to timed out status. Then the backup failed again.

    Step 3: Once we reboot the server, the Writers status are stable. 

    Step 4: Please note that we are able to take Native windows backup without any issue.

    Kindly check this issue and let me know if there any fix available.

    Hi,

    According to your description, my understanding is that VSS writers went to timed out status on WHS 2011 once Arcserve initiate the backup.

    It is recommended to fully patches the WHS 2011 with Windows Update/Hotfix, it is helpful for resolving some known issues and improving the performance.

    Besides, you may check the Event Viewer and confirm that if any related event has been logged. It might be helpful for further identify this problem.

    As your description, WHS built-in backup works well, and this problem only happens when using the tool – Arcserve. Compatibility should be considered. 

    As it is a third-party product which is manufactured by company that are independent of Microsoft, I would recommend you to contact this tool’s official website or supporter to identify this problem.
