Office MARKED AS NOT GENUINE RRS feed

  • Question

  • Whenever I open Word, I get a message saying Office is not genuine and that it will be marked as non-genuine in 3 days. Windows is genuine it says, Office not.

    Why might this be?

What Will Happen When It Is Marked As Not Genuine ?

I bought my pc through a regular retailer with office and windows already installed (though did recently download office.org).

    Many thanks,

    Garrett Higgins

The report is telling us that you have a nongenuine installation of a Volume Licensing-only edition of Office XP Pro w/Front Page.  Your installation was done with a widely pirated and now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK).

Volume Licensing editions of Office such as your installation of Office XP Pro are not to be sold to individual consumers, and are only to be sold to businesses, educational institutions, and governmental agencies who need flexibility in installing and deploying many copies of Office.

These Volume Licenses should not be sold to consumers because they are not permanent licenses; they are subject to a current Volume Licensing Agreement that has a finite term, sort of like a lease.  Consumers thinking they purchased permanently licensd software would understandably be upset when their software stopped working at the end of a lease.

If you purchased Office XP Pro thinking you were buying genuine retail Office XP Pro for consumers with a permanent license, please return the software to the place of purchase for replacement or a full refund.

  • Hello

I am having a similar problem. I think my Windows XP and Office 2003 are both genuine.

WinXP passes validation when I go to the website http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ValidateNow.aspx?displaylang=en

However, when I try to validate Office 2003, it gives me an error. When I clicked for more information, it said: "The product key used to install Office has been identified by Microsoft as a key that was issued to a large, corporate customer. This key is reserved for the exclusive use of this customer, and cannot be used to install other copies of Microsoft Office."

This large corporate customer is my employer (IIT-Madras, India).

The problem is that when my previous computer went bust, I purchased a new laptop from Dell. The laptop came with Win-XP (Vista Downgrade) installed by Dell. This was because the Dell sales person told me that machine w/o an OS installed will cost the same, since they had some deal going on. After purchasing the laptop, I did not bother to reinstall WinXP with my institute license (why would I?). Now, suddenly, Office is giving me "not genuine copy" error. Please let me know what I need to do.

    Thanks
    Niket

PS: Result of MGAdiag.exe gives the same error: "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2" and "Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1"

  • Hello garretthiggins,

"Marked" means that you'll see some notices about nongenuine Office and there will be a new menu item for Getting Genuine.

Of course, you will not lose any functionality whatsoever and not one byte of data will be disturbed.  Pretty painless, really :-)
