Problem installing WHS 2011 Connector on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am receiving an error when trying to install the WHS connector on one of my PC's.  I have been able to successfully install it on a different PC (which is a laptiop).

The problem I am experiencing is that I receive this message very quickly after selection the participate in the feedback program prompt:

"The Windows Home Server 2011 Connector has encountered an unexpected error.  Click Close to undo most of the changes that are made to this computer."

I've reviewed this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2520547 and even though the service was already set to manual, I changed it to automatic, and then changed it back to manual, but I am still receiving the same error message when I try to install the connector.  I even tried rebooting the PC after making the changes to the services.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I figured out what was wrong.

I closely reviewed my installed software and noticed that I had .net 4.0 beta 4 installed on my system.  How I got this installed I don't know as I don't remember ever installing any beta software.

In any event, once I saw that I had a beta version of .net software installed, I thought that the best option would be to remove it and reinstall the production version of .net.

Once I did that I was able to successfully install the WHS 2011 connector software.

  • I had the exact same problem, except that my uninstall of .NET Beta was not clean and had to go to lengths to actually clean up. I would surely be easier if the Connector setup provides better error messages..
