How to customize email activities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

Currently in CRM we have defined our own custom entities and now we would like to have one of those entities to appear in To, CC, Bcc options while creating a new email activity.

Has anyone had any clue about it ?... and if it is neccesary to create a custom form for that How can I reuse email current functionality .. I mean use views, look up controls already existent in standard email activity form ?

    Thanks

  • Aside from hacking CRM to death, I'm not certain what I mean.  I think what I'm getting at is that in order to use existing functionality, there's only one way to do it, and it was my recommendation above.  Otherwise, I think you're squarely in "re-invent the wheel" territory.  You'll probably have to recreate the functionality you're looking to use by the way of emailing.

  • As David says, Dynamics CRM has very fixed ideas about the kind of entities which can be used for emailing and to circumvent this may be more trouble than its worth. I've consider a new contact or account type as adjusting the system to make this practical will probably be supported and cheaper.

  • You would have to find a way to turn your custom entity into an acceptable ActivityParty type, and implement any required interfacing to match what the email record expects (whether or not the email address rests in a specific attribute).  Naturally, this is highly unsupported, by my estimation, but is the only thing that will allow you to reuse existing functionality with the model you've outlined.

I wonder, if, perhaps, it would not be wiser to establish a relationship between your custom entity and the Contact entity.  This way, you could still programmatically define any of those fields (to, cc, bcc) from a Workflow using the relationship, and use existing functionality.

  • Thanks for reply.

    Just to clarify:
There is no way to make a relation between new entity and contact.

About first suggestion. you mean create a form from zero ?
