I have been trying to use the threaded view that can be activated in My Settings . In this view, each reply (child) is indented relative to its parent. However, there seems to be a maximum of four indents. After this, the posts are presented in "threaded order", but it no longer possible to see the parent-child relationship.
If this is by design, I would suggest that four indents is not enough. If narrowing of the post field is the concern, I would say you are being too conservative here. In any case, I think you could decrease the indent by a factor of 2 (thereby, of course, halving the narrowing for a given number of indents).
However, as I have posted elsewhere, I am starting to have some doubts about this threaded view, and am thinking that a better approach would be to keep the normal flat list view (with chronological order) and have each response simply reference its parent (In reply to XXX on YYY).David Wilkinson | Visual C++ MVP
