User profile hosed: Live Mesh not working; cannot be uninstalled; cannot be installed

Question
-
OS is Vista Ultimate (32-bit) SP1. When I installed this week's updates from WU, the computer couldn't load my user profile, so it created a new one for me (apparently the profile was corrupted).
Live Mesh does not work (it doesn't appear in the notification area). I was able to log into my Live Mesh account and remove the device, thinking I could just reinstall Live Mesh. I've looked up the topics in this forum on the issue of failed installation/uninstallation.
If I try to install Live Mesh, I get: Live Mesh is already installed. Sign in to add this computer to your mesh. [80070666] Another version of this product is already installed. ...Use Add/Remove Programs....
Live Mesh does not appear in the list of installed programs.
The /repair and /uninstall switches for livemesh.exe (in the Downloads folder from my attempt to reinstall) fail with errors: Product does not support running under an elevated account. Note that this is contrary to the instructions you have posted.
In an ordinary comment prompt, /repair returns "action only valid for products that are installed."
So I tried the registry. The registry keys mentioned in your sticky on the topic do not exist. They don't even have the /Installer part, much less anything below that.
So I'm stuck: I can't use Live Mesh. I can't uninstall it. I can't reinstall it.

While we await a possible solution from the Live Mesh team, I suggest filing a bug on Connect.
Sticky: How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs
I'll add that the first key listed will not be there since you are using a different profile than the one it was installed under, but the second should still exist, in theory.

Hi,
I think that we will probably need a bug with whatever logs you can gather before we'll be able to say for sure what's causing the problem, but I did have one question to start with: Is the new Windows account you're trying to install to an administrator account? The "Product does not support running under an elevated account" error usually indicates an attempt to install to a standard user account using "over-the-shoulder" elevation of privileges with admin credentials.
Once you have submitted your bug with any logs (of particular interest would be the Servicing log found either at %localappdata%\Microsoft\Live Mesh\Setup or %temp%\Live Mesh), please post the Connect Feedback ID here so that I can follow up on the bug internally.
Thanks,

Sorry I've been offline from the forum.
It also occurred to me that the re-created user profile (what bizarre behavior that was!) might not be in the Administrators group--I'll have to check that and advise. I'll also try to find the logs, but when I checked in the log locations mentioned elsewhere in the Mesh FAQs and help, I found nothing.
If you want to follow up internally, you can actually look me up in the GAL in Outlook @ MS: I'm jaimeo....
