Windows 7 Genuine Advantage Validation Issues (Windows 7) RRS feed

  • Question

  • My windows suddenly started complaining that it is not genuine. I have searched this in lot of areas. Please find the output of MGADiag below. Please let me know what is going wrong.

Also, I realised that this *MIGHT* come up if I do not input the key during the installation procedure. I haven't input the key so it seems to be picking up the default one. I have a COA key as well. So, I tried to update the product key. But, it is not accepting the product key punched onto my CD Cover.

Im really confused. Could someone please suggest what messed up and the next steps.

    Thanks,

    Pavan

  • you are using a Dell OEM SLP key on a Lenovo computer. that doesn't work.

Change your product key to the one from your COA.

How to change the product key.

    click start

    right click computer

    select properties

scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key

You may have to activate by phone

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

  • Hi George,

Thanks for the info. But when I hit the slui.exe 4 [ it had the same effect as slui.exe ofcourse ] a dialog opened up titled 'Windows Activation' and had the following three entries into it:

    1.Buy a product key online

    2.try a different product key

3.Contact dell to resolve this problem.

Could you please confirm if this is the dialog you were referring to. Im asking this as I could not find any option to find a list that holds teh countries or the 'phone activation' option that you mentioned of.

    Thanks,

    Pavan

Once you properly enter your COA Key, you should be offered the option to activate either by phone or by internet.

  • Option 2 means in your case to use the product key printed on the COA label affixed to your computer.  It is not the same as the one in your report and is provided for this sort of situation.  Make sure that the edition of Windows printed on the label is the same as the edition currently installed.
