The validate page comes back with "

Files that Windows needs to work properly have been modified, removed, or disabled. To resolve, you need to install genuine Windows. Not to worry, we can help you with that."

Then tries to get me to buy Windows again, which considering I'm a MS alumni and bought it from the company store it should be legit! ;-)

When I go to the diag page it says everything passes.

OK, what I think is happening is that there is a breakdown in trust somewhere in the system - either a license is broken, or there is a certificate missing
This highlighted error is one that we've never managed to solve in these forums (and as far as I can tell, nowhere else, either), without resorting to either a repair or clean install.

If you want to keep trying here, I'm game, but it could take even longer than it has already, and we may still not get a solution.

I recommend that you call WGA support for assistance, and point them at this thread so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel :)

    Outside North America:

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

    Try this
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window
Type the following command, then hit the Enter key

    regsvr32 wintrust.dll

you should get a Success message popup.

    reboot
run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

  • Oh well - I didn't think my luck could hold :(

No change - which means that it could be a long haul looking for the solution.

try the expanded set of dlls....

4.Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
5.At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press ENTER after each command:
    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
    exit

You should get a 'success' popup after each

Reboot, and run another MGADiag report.

  • Rats! I had hopes for that one :(

.... Hmmm  - before I go to bed, try this one

go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate to validate- see what it has to say.

if/when it fails, go to the Diagnostic page at www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and see if it has any comment.

Then post back with (yet) andother MGADiag report.

  • The validate page comes back with "
