Windows 7 Build 7601 Genuine Validation Not Working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Windows 7 program that suddenly, after 3.5 years, is showing "Windows 7 Build 7601 ... not genuine." I clicked on the Windows Activation Update, as suggested, but it just ran in an endless loop for hours.

Then I went into the Microsoft online chat and spoke with Jerome V. He took control of my computer and did a system scan. He said there were no signs of corruption and that my product key works fine. He suggested I reboot my system. I did. No change - still showing "not genuine". Jerome V suggested that if the problem wasn't resolved, I could call Microsoft's technical support line 1-800-936-5800.

I called Microsoft tech support number and was passed to different technicians and finally told I'd have to submit a support ticket and pay $295 Cad to get a solution from the engineers who designed the program. Before I do that, I thought I'd try here first.

My Windows Activation Status is "not available" and the Product ID is also "not available." But I have no idea how to change this and I do have a valid product key.

Can anyone here help? Many thanks!

Here is a copy of my diagnostic:

  • Update: My computer crashed because of a hard drive failure. The computer techs were able to recover all the information and transfer to a new hard drive. In the process, they were able to enter my Windows 7 product key for validation and it was accepted. Hopefully that will be the end of this Windows activation challenge.

  • Windows License Type: Volume MAK

This indicates a Volume license.  Was this system originally a part of a large organizational setup?  Where did you get the OS install?  If it was sold to you as a stand alone version, then I believe that it is a counterfeit.

  • Yes this was a volume license, bought through Techsoup by my employer (a non-profit), and put on individual computers that are not networked. The other employees I know of, that have this software, aren't having this problem.

  • C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): 0xC000009C

This is a specific problem with the WMI Store, based on the same symptoms shown in this thread.  Beyond me for the time being, but follow the directions in that post and I am sure that Noel Paton will be able to help further once you have the results posted.

  • Than you Kamin for your responses. My computer has crashed and I had to take it to a computer repair store. I have sent them your suggestion about following the other thread.
