Can't Backup Files in the Program Folder? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wonder what the reasoning is behind excluding from back-up files in certain folders such as the "Programs" folder? In that folder I have many databases (mdb) associated with Programs I would really like to backup. Many of the programs don't allow me to store them anywhere else but in the program folder. I can understand the rationale of not backing up system type files but why not exclude those by file types vs. excluding whole folders?

  • Unfortunately, the only solution for you would be to manually copy the files that reside in \Program Files (or programs) to another location for backup before OneCare backup runs.

  • Try looking under the "Other" file type category in Backup, these files should be listed there since they aren't included in any other category or the excluded types that I can see.

To back them up you'd need to enable this category and select them individually for inclusion. I believe you can mass uncheck all of the remaining Other files, but I've forgotten exactly how, so just experiment while in that list.
