Live OneCare not compatable with Win XP Pro 64-bit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm currently trying out this new 64-bit O.S. I can't use my Norton Antivirus 2008 and I want to try Live OneCare for protection. I received : ERROR ID:0003-800402CD and can't get an answer if I will be able to use Live OneCare.

     Please advise. Thanks,

  • Hello, Mark. Windows XP 64 bit may be new to you, but it is a fairly old operating system. And, no, Windows Live OneCare cannot be installed on it.

Vista 64 bit is a supported OS for OneCare.

  • Thanks for the response to my question. I've been using XP Pro for about a year and Home on my laptop for 4 years. I do custom builds for friends and thought I'd step into 64-bit for a change. I just want some type of protection besides a firewall. I hope to find it someware.

  • Hey wait just 1 minute here Stephen Boots, I spoke with Microsoft and MICROSOFT advertises I can use 2 PC with live one care, this is my going on 3rd year with live one care, I was told BY Microsoft that this december the live one care was going to work with windows xp pro 64 bit. Seems like a LOT of MICROSOFT personnel have no idea what IS going on. Is this and official statement to todays date? dec 2007? I WILL most definetly SUE Microsoft for false advertising that I could use Live One Care on 3 PC's and NOW You decide to change your minds?

Unbelievable, get me a supervisor to address my concerns NOW. I am tired of hearing miss information and delays, my system is no vunerable again caused by Microsoft miss information.

Microsoft has employee who have no clue what one department or operating system does, and we must HUNT AROUND FOR ANSWERS that are contraditing to advertising public commercials, print and website information that lacks the truth. Get me a responce immediately without further delays. if my system dies for not being protected because I am online now to get that live one care 2.0 for my windows 64 bit XP pro.

  • I don't know who told you that OneCare would ever support Windows XP 64 bit, but I can assure you that this was never advertised anywhere as it simply is not true. OneCare v1.0 only supported XP 32 bit when it was released. Version 1.5, released in January of 2007 added support for Vista - 32 bit. Vista x64 was finally support with the release of 2.0 this November.

OneCare can be installed on up to 3 computers for a single licensed subscription and that has never changed.

I understand you being upset if you were given false information, but I can assure you that in this forum *never* has it been stated that OneCare would ever be supported on XP 64 bit. In fact, we speculated that it would not be coded to support this OS and have noted that on a number of occasions. If you have a support case number for your contact with Microsoft support where a tech advised you that XP 64bit was going to be supported, post it here and it can be followed up on.

I don't appreciate your demanding tone. I am not a Microsoft employee or contractor. I and my fellow forum moderators volunteer our time here. If you feel that you have been slighted by Microsoft, there is a contact link at http://www.microsoft.com
