Conneting WHS to Windows Server 2003? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to use WHS as a backup for Windows Server 2003 on a network? I'm looking for an alternative to tape backups. The WHS server would be in a separate building from the main server for offsite backups. I only have read that WHS works with XP and Vista.

  • Hi

Not using the built in WHS features - W2003 is not one of the supported OS's because not many home users are using it.

However, you could use another application to copy your backups to a shared folder on WHS - then you could use folder duplication, but its nowhere near as good as the backup and recovery side of WHS.

  • Works fine with 2003 Server Standard Edition. The Connector software installed fine and the automatic backups run normally, just the same as XP.

This is with the RC1 version of WHS, maybe it won't work with the OEM version..

  • Cool - have you tried a full computer restore yet?

  • Funny you should mention that, I just did a restore of my test 2003 Server and it worked well :-)
