How to recover a mailbox deleted items to a different mailbox? RRS feed

  • We have a situation where a user is sending emails and then deleting the sent item.  We are not ready to let them go but we want to recover those deleted items so we can read them without affecting the user.  Is there a way to recover deleted items to a different mailbox?  We are enabling journaling to track future emails but need those prior emails ASAP.

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • What version of Exchange are you running?

    You could enable the Registry Key : DumpsterAllwaysOn so that messages always go to deleted items
    Then you must make sure that Deleted items retention is set to the maximum time that you want to retreive messages (this will dramatically grow your Exchange storage needs!)
    Then use Cross Mailbox search in Exchange 2007 or open the mailbox with a user that has access to all mailboxes.

    What you want is in the next version of Exchange => Exchange 2010
    There you can have policies and enable legal hold for mailboxes
