WHS disk format- NTFS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to reuse a drive that I formerly used in a WHS beta box. When placed in an external drive case and connected via USB to my my Vista computer, the drive is not visible. If the drive is formatted in NTFS (as I think it is), why can’t I see it?

  • Hi,

Yes, WHS/Server 2003 uses standard NTFS. However, it's likely that you might need to re-format it, as it could contain hidden files/folders depending where it was in the pool.

  • It is possible that is just hasn't been given a drive letter. Go to Computer Management and you should be able to give the drive letter to the partition
