Windows asks me for to activate Windows again because of a hardware change but I didn't do any changes to my laptop. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Okay well I have an acer aspire one, and a month and a half ago I wiped my computer and reinstalled Windows XP and I tried to use the serial number under my laptop but it didn't work so I had to call Microsoft to get them to help me activate it, and it was fine but until yesterday, I installed a regular program and I had to restart my computer to finish the installation process so I did then when I booted up XP it says a hardware change has occurred and I have to reactivate Windows XP and I'm like no I didn't I'm using a laptop and I didn't do anything but restart my computer so now it tells me I have to reactivate windows within 3 days so I click on it and it says this activation code has been used too many times, so I'm really confused here and I need help.

  • Using the Windows XP Home Edition product key that is affixed to your Acer computer, change the product key using the Windows Product Key Update Tool:
    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PKUInstructions.aspx

Afterward, attempt to activate via the interent.  If unsuccessful, use the alternative to "activate by phone".

It's already activated, which is strange, but thank you very much.
