Move db from one server to another

Question
-
I have a functioning deployment of CRM 4.0 and would like to go live with it. I'd like to leave CRM on the existing server but move the databases to our main database server. The databases are currently on the same machine as the CRM install. Is there an article somewhere that might give me detailed instructions as to how to do this? Also, I don't have Report Server installed on the destination database server. Can I leave the report server on the existing machine or do I need to migrate it as well? How do I go about migrating the report databases if I need to. There are no custom reports created yet. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Hi Ernie,
Please follow the instructions in that KB to move your deployments: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/952934. The article describes the supported ways to accomplish your task and to move the dbs between servers in different scenarios. You can also refer to this post:

Just a thought here but an important one Ernie.
Is the main SQL server a Cluster?
If so be careful.
At last look at the documentation there is little mention of issues with Clusters.
If SRS is not on the SQL server, good.
Don't install the SRS connector on a SQL cluster. It can shut down the Cluster service.Friday, May 29, 2009 2:55 AMModerator -
Everyone, thanks for the help. The article on moving the database was very helpful and I think I can follow it and pull it off.
Curt, thanks to you, too. The main database server is in a cluster. SRS is not installed on the cluster now. It looks like the only thing for which we use SRS is going to be CRM. So, my original question actually contained two points. They were can I move the database for the first question and everyone has kindly answered that question. The other question was can I leave SRS installed on the CRM server with the CRM database on our regular database server. So, if you knnow the answer to that question, I'd really like to know it. I've tried installing SRS on the cluster and I don't want to go there again.
