SyncToy 2.1 not working on Windows 7 (64bit) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well,

After reading some of the threads here I just wanted to report the issue I am having.  This is my setup:
    - One Linux box running Samba (using local accounts )
    - 3 Windows Laptops synchronizing to the Samba share
    - 1 Laptop running Windows XP and SyncToy 1.4.0.0 (working as expected)
    - 1 Laptop running Windows Vista and Synctoy 1.4.0.0 (working as expected)
    - 1 Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit and SyncToy (not working)
    - All 3 laptops are configure to 'Echo' from local drives to share drive
    - All 3 laptops are using the same samba account.
    - Files ARE NOT read only on neither of the laptops.
    - File system on the share drive is FAT32
    - share drive is mounted on Linux with the account and group which is the same I am connecting from the laptops.

    Issue:
    - On the Windows 7 laptop I am receiving the following error:
Error: Unknown error. Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Copying blah to \\share\blah

I get that error for all files in the local computer.  No single file is copied, although the directory structure is 'echoed' on the share drive.  I am pretty sure the issue is at the SyncToy 2.1 side, since all other laptops are working.

Basic troubleshooting on the Windows 7 Sync Toy machine:
    - I am able to copy manually using explorer from the local file system into the share drive.
    - Files are not read only.
    - Logged as administrator, account has full control on all files.

thanks for your time, any help will be appreciated.

  • UPDATE : After some troubleshooting and frustration I was able to workaround the issue. I installed SyncToy 2.0 x86 edition and it worked as expected. So, apparently the issue is not necessarily on Windows 7 64 bit. I think it is a combination of problems, but definitely SyncToy 2.1 has a part on that equation. Hope his could help somebody as frustrated as me.

  • I am glad it works for you.

just curious, is the x86 Win7 has the same config/settings as the x64 bits one ?

the x86 and x64 bit syncToy ( and its underlying syncFx ) should be the same on these two platforms, so I wander there might be other issues around here.

    thanks
