    You say that you bought this machine a year ago? The BIOS is later than that, so I assume that at some stage you updated that for some reason. The problem is that you updated with a version that is not Win7 compliant. You need either to contact Acer and see if they have a Win7 compliant BIOS Update, or change the Product Key in use to the one on your COA sticker on the machine's case, using the Change Product Key link on the System Properties page.

    Please note also that your installation of Office is non-genuine.

    Your  Product Key should be on a sticker on the machine's case - it's a multicolor label with the Operating System name on it, and the Product Key (25 characters in 5 groups of 5).

    To open System Properties click on the Start button and in the Search box, type System and wait for it to find the options. Near the top of the list should be "System" - click on that. The System Properties window should open. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the Change product Key link there. Follow the instructions, and then when it asks you to activate, pick the alternative options - phone method.

    Please do NOT turn off Windows Updates! They are there for a reason - and unless you have equally good reasons to turn them off, they should be left to install as and when required.

    <rhetorical question>
    Why is it that whenever people have a problem their first reaction is to turn off Windows Updates? They are very rarely the cause of the problem, an it's much more likely that they are the victims of a problem with the machine itself.
    </rhetorical question>

    You don't get BIOS updates through Windows Update - you only get them by going to the manufacturer's site and downloading them from there. You should ONLY do that if there is a problem with your machine that is addressed by the BIOS update, and you have been advised to do the update by someone who knows what they are doing and why.

    Glad it's fixed - Good Luck.
