PC short-circuited, needs product key RRS feed

    Hi!
I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but I'm having trouble activating Windows (Windows XP HomeEdition SP1a). I've already installed/activated it once (years ago) but this morning we experienced a short-circuit and when I switched my computer back on, it asked for the product key, which is strange, but I entered it anyway... The only problem is it won't accept it! ("invalid product key"). I'm pretty sure I entered the right thing (the 25 digit number on my PC) and I also know this is not a pirated copy.
Is there a way I can fix this without having to reinstall Windows?

Please make sure that the product key that you are entering is correct.  There is a separate product key for the operating system, your Windows XP Home Edition SP1a and another key for your Office Suite.  It's very possible that the prompt is asking for the product key of the Office suite.

Please let me know if this has helped!
