  • Please see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793434.aspx for an explanation of how to activate a KMS Windows 7 client.  You can also contact the volume license administrator at the organization that issued you the key.

You are aware that this is a Volume License edition of Windows- not for retail sale?
You should contact your system admin for assistance if this is a company machine.

If you bought this copy of Windows retail - from where did you get it? Demand a refund!

  • Thanks for your replys. I am a system administrator at a University, running a computer lab of many machines with identical configurations as this one with  the issue, none of which show any signs of a problem. I have tried, among other things to manually activate with our domain's KMS server without success. I was hopeing someone here may have some insight into the problem based on the MGADiag report, while I am working on other possibilities as to what the problem might be. Can anyone help me learn if the MGADiag report contain any clues as to what the problem is? Thanks again. I'm not expecting a complete solution, just a hint of what direction I might concentrate my efforts in finding a cause of the problem.

    Ah!
No - MGADiag won't show if there's problems with the server.
I take it there are more than 25 machines activating against server involved?
Have you checked the server logs?
You could always try running MGADiag on the server - it'll have some details on the KMS licensing (just in case that's out of whack)
I'd try posting in the ITPro forums for assistance (although they'll probably push you onto the Volume Activation people) - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/threads

  • I think I found the solution. Whenever I tried to manually run slmgr.vbs I would get a permissions denied error, even as Administrator. I eventually discovered this, having to do with missing registry keys:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2008385

I believe it has solved my problem. Thanks everyone.
