Does integration of Avaya PBX with SIP require mediation server to interoperate with OCS? RRS feed

All replies

  • Yes it does

Since the OCS use RTA codec the audio-streams must pass through a Mediation Server and probably a gateway before the Avaya PBX understands it. SIP is in this case only the signalling to perform call set-up and on hook off hook etc.

As of today I believe the only product able to understand OCS without gateway (but with Mediation Server) is Cisco Call Manager.

  • You can get away from using a mediation server if you use something like a Audio Codes Hyrid gateway!

  • Yes, because mediation server in that case (hybrid vs basic gateway) is built into the same box Smile

AFAIK the advanced gateway is the only one, that doesnt need a mediation server (but it is still not on the market)

  • Richard is correct with the Hybrid you just eliminate the physical server because the server is built into the AudioCodes box.
