Why do I get a 'CRM server is not available' on Vista and not on XP when deploying Outook client RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've successfully installed and setup the latest CRM client on 3 different XP SP2 PC's on our domain but can't get it installed on Vista or Win7 PC's.  When trying to configure the CRM wizard upon first launch of outlook on the Vista PC, I receive the 'CRM server is not available' when using the 'My company' option and our FQDN server name.  I used FQDN server name successfully for XP.  I've tried 1) FQDN:5555, 2) FQDN, 3) FQDN:5555/<OrgName> but nothing works for Vista.  I've tried various other things but nothing out there with the scenario I have.  PLEASE HELP!  PC configs all meet CRM requirements (Office SP2, Vista SP2, etc.) and download is CRM 4 rollup 7.  The actual error is 'The specified Microsoft Dynamics CRM server is not available.  Make sure that the URL is correct.  To test the URL, try opening it in Internet Explorer.'  By the way, I can successfully test the URL on the Vista PC just fine with same credentials.

  • Hi ASotelo,
Try to disable firewall on these machine to test it. If you still have a problems check IIS logs on CRM server they are by default in c:\Windows\System32\LogFiles
and you should see error number which can tell you/us something more. I don't think that problem is on the application layer.

  • Hi,

    A couple items to check:

--On the workstations are you logging into the domain and NOT the local machine ?
--Can you browse http://fqdn:5555 and log in ok without being prompted ?

  • 1) Each workstation, mostly individauls unique laptops, are logging in locally.  We are not prompted with an initial domain login.  2) I tried http://fqdn:5555 and could NOT log in.  I received a generic 'IE cannot display the webpage' message.
