This copy of Windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello. My laptop has recently been telling me every time I log on that my copy of Windows is not genuine. I have had the machine for the past 4 years, and within the past year and a half it has been switched from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I have not had a problem with this until yesterday, and I was hoping you could help. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • The installed version of Windows is counterfeit - using the infamous Lenovo Stolen Key.

You need to reformat and reinstall using the manufacturer's proper Recovery Media, and/or legitimate  retail media for Windows 7.

  • Unfortunately, your HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook has a counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate installed.  You'll need to purchase a genuine "full retail" edition of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".  You can purchase genuine Windows 7 software directly from the Microsoft Store.
