Moving CRM to a new domain. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are running CRM v3 and need to move the server and install to a new domain.

I know there are instructions on moving to a new domain and server that involve moving the DBs, running the redeployment tool, and installing CRM in the new domain attaching to the existing DBs.

Our situation is different because we are not moving servers.  The installation will stay on the same server, it's just that the server will be joined to a new domain.

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall CRM on the same server?

    Will the customizations move?

    Thanks,

  • The process is the same, you will need to uninstall and reinstall CRM on the same server, and the customisations will move (as they are in the CRM databases).

You may need to be careful about the overall sequence if there are no trust relationships between the old and new domains. I'd recommend the following.

    1. Backup the MSCRM and METABASE databases (for safety)
    2. Uninstall CRM from the server
    3. Move the server to the new domain
    4. Install and run the CRM redeployment tool
    5. Reinstall CRM on the server, attaching to the existing DBs
