MsMpEng.exe RRS feed

  • Question

  • The discussion for the last three years indicates that there is some conflict between this program and other programs when it is scanning. Uninstalling OneCareLIve does not eliminate the problem since MsMpEng.exe still remains and continues to scan even though other anti-virus programs exist. Examination of its files shows that it is still performing some kind of function that looks like it is detecting and quarantining many items (I am not a professional so I can't really interpret what these files are). Some of these files on my computer are in Chinese characters altho I have never knowingly visited anything but US sites. Question: Will a standard anti-virus program protect my computer if I delete all the files associated with MsMpEng.exe?

  • MsMpEng.exe is also a process used by Windows Defender. To turn off Defender open it, select Tools>Options>Administrator and uncheck "Use this program".
