"build 7600 this copy of windows not genuine"?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I got home from work today and all the sudden this was in the corner of my screen.

It's gone away now and has been replaced with a window that says "Optional update delivery not working. You may be a victim of software counterfeiting"

I've had and have been using this computer for over 2 years now. I've never seen this before.

I ran the diagnostic tool and here's what it said:

  • The error message you quote is  a common one where firewalls are getting in the way of the process.

What security software are you using?

  • Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer.

    What happens?

The symptom you are seeing could be due to a firewall interfering with the validation process which Windows goes through every so often - what Security software are you using?

  • When I try to download it it says "Update information failed. Error information - 0x80072EE2 (0)"

The "not genuine" and other window that were showing the other day have been gone for a couple days now though. Don't know if that means anything...
