Vista Validation Problem when downloading templates for Powerpoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Microsoft,

I'm having a validation problem when trying to utilize design slides in Microsoft Powerpoint. It says my Microsoft Home and Student 2007 is not genuine, but when clicking "Get Genuine" the validation is successful and it then says I should be able to enjoy all the benefits reserved for genuine Office users. When I try to then use the design temples in Powerpoint again, the same validation error takes place. I really want to make a great powerpoint presentation, but can't if I can't utilize those design templates that I should be able to use because I did purchase a genuine Microsoft Office program. Please help!

  • Hello DaisyMeg,

I would really like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well.

What is the URL link and the name of the templates?

Are you receiving an "Error Message"?

Also on the template’s download page, do you see an ActiveX Control Banner?

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    • Select the Security tab
    • Make sure that the Internet content zone is selected and click Custom Level.
    • Set Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins to Enable.
    • Set Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting to Enable.
    • Click OK.
    • Close all the instence of Internet Explorer and re-open it.

This will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.

  • Antron,

I'm having the same problem with any template I try to download. Specifically, when I open a new document in Microsoft Word and click on the Microsoft Button --> New --> and Select a Template from Microsoft Office Online (such a Resumes and CV). When I click the "Download" button a "Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage box opens in which it says, "templates are only available to customers running genuine Microsoft Office. The status of you Microsoft Office software is validated each time you download templates. To begin the validation process of Microsoft Office, click Continue."

I then click Continue and another box opens that say "You might be a victim of software counterfeiting. The following Microsoft Office software installed on this computer is not genuine:
Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007
To find out why we cannot validate that your Microsoft Office software is not genuine, click Get Genuine."

So then I click "Get Genuine" and this website pops up: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/SuccessfulValidation.aspx?displaylang=en&PartnerID=500&sGuid=05b5e31f-c0c7-447a-95d5-a0d24f6440b3&Error=100

    The Microsoft website says...

     Validation Successful!

Thank you for using genuine Office and participating in the Office Genuine Advantage program. You may now enjoy all the benefits reserved for genuine Office users. Genuine Microsoft Office® provides unique value, ongoing updates, and enhancements from Microsoft that counterfeit versions of Office do not. With genuine Office, you’ll spend less time keeping your software current and more time generating professional-looking documents for home or school.

When you buy genuine Office, you:

    • Know that you are getting the most secure version of Office available.
    • Get support from Microsoft or Microsoft trusted partners.
    • Increase your productivity with free downloads, training, and other resources.

Validation does not guarantee that the copy of Office installed on this computer is properly licensed.

I'm very confused...how is the validation successful (meaning my software is genuine...which it should be), yet I cannot download the templates I need? After this "Validation Successful" I try to download the same template and this exact process starts over again.

I tried following your advice regarding the Active X controls, but I do not use Internet Explorer as my default web browser. I use Firefox. So then I switched my default web browser to Internet Explorer to follow those directions and the Active X and plugins were already enabled. I tried the whole template download thing again with Internet Explorer as my default and the same thing took place again. So no fix there.

There's no Error Message as well and I don't remember the URL or name of the templates since we last talked.

Please let me know how to use the templates after I received successful validations for both Windows Vista and Microsoft Office. This is such a frustrating and confusing proces!

    Thanks!

    DaisyMeg
