Installed Windows Media on my HP home server last week and now my consoles won't connect

  I tried to view a movie that I have stored on my home server, last week, and got a Windows prompt, telling me that I could enjoy Windows Media Player on the server.  I followed the instructions for installation (no luck playing the movie), but now neither console (a laptop and desktop) fail to connect to the server.  I've tried over the last week, with no success, and have no idea how to resolve the problem.  The shared files are viewable, and the server icon in the tray is green.  I can run backups by right-clicking the icon, and automated backups appear to run ok.  I just can't open the console.  I get the "This computer cannot connect to your console" error message.

  Please help.
