Setting up a new computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to backup one computer and restore to a new laptop, then delete from the previous unit.

The problem is that I have three computers on my one account. I believe this is why one care won't let me add this computer to my subscription. However, it doesn't say this, it says my pass word is incorrect (the same one I used to log in for this chat).
     Please advise.

  • Hello MayorCrispy, if you have exceeded the maximum number of computers One Care should generate this message:

"Unable to verify account status because the maximum number of computers is already activated for this account".

If your error message says "incorrect password" it usually means you have entered an incorrect password. To verify you are using the correct password sign in to your One Care account at billing - https://billing.microsoft.com/home.aspx

If your password is correct and you continue to get the incorrect password when attempting to activate, please contact support. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

  • I'll add that if you recently changed your LiveID password to be longer than 8 characters, you'll encounter the incorrect password error as the OneCare activation can't deal with passwords longer than 8 characters. Shorten it at http://account.live.com, activate OneCare, then feel free to change the password again.
