Validation Problem After Installing WGA and Updates RRS feed

  • Currently I am a support technician for a computer manufactuer and have encountered a problem with the validation failure with a legal Windows CD Key.

As part of our process, we test and configure hardware for our prototypes using our copy of XP PRO and then seal it using Sysprep and create an image with Ghost . When the system goes to our Bench Test department, the image is installed and when the mini-setup runs the customer's valid CD Key number is entered.

From here, it is essentially burned in and when complete, the image is again installed with the customer's key so that the mini setup runs when the customer powers on the system for the first time out of the box (OBEE) prior to shipment.

From here the customers starts the system, enters his CD Key number and then runs the updates to install the WGA Validation tool. Once complete and the validation option is executed and is sucessful, the remaining updates are installed.

Where the problem starts, is after the system reboots and a message indicating that it must be re-validate the copy of XP and once it is entered again this time as change key option, a message appears indicating that they have exceeded the maximum number of times to enter the CD Key and must now validate by phone which is ok for 1 unit, but in the case of 20 units, this process is unacceptable.

I am looking for a solution from MS that will help up resolve this issue. Is there a workaround we can pass onto our customers? Or is there any suggestions as to improve our process.
