Project Server 2010 - Resource Allocation set limits in an enterprise environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to restrict PM's from overallocating resources?  We have a lot of shared resources that work several projects that have different PM's.  We want to be able to assign a resource to the project schedule but limit the PM from allocating their resources beyond a certain number of hours per day, week, or month (timescale) for a specific project.  In other words never let a PM allocate a resource for more than they have been allowed for that specific resource.  This is critical to be able to utilize the resource availability functionality in the tool and to schedule new projects based on when projects become available.  This is critical to the success of this implementation.  Thoughts?

PS:  We have a Capacity Mgr permission group that allows assignment of enterprise resources to the project resource pool and currently create a resource plan for what is allowed to the project.  The PM permission group cannot access enterprise resources, but once a resource is assigned they can overallocate them on their plans with no regard for other project that resource is scheduled for.

    Please Help!
