Windows Vista Home Premium Software Licensing AND Validation Problem

Question
-
My laptop started to freeze randomly sometime early this week and I had to manually turn off the power to restart it. I ran scf /scannow and did not find any integrity violations. I cannot start control panel from the start menu. However, I could access the features from the control menu using explorer. The automatic windows update stopped working, and the Software Licensing Service stopped as well. I ran a MGADiag and the results are shown below.
I noticed that my product key is different than the sticker at the back of my laptop. Also, when I typed net start slsvc from cmd, "sometimes" it says The Licensing service was started successfully, but when I check the services.msc right after, the Software Licensing Service was shown as "Stopped". The net start slsvc gave me error 57346 in the cmd otherwise. When I try to start Software Licensing from services.msc, it says "Windows could not start the Software Licensig service on Local Computer. Error 0xc004e002: 0xc004e002".
I went on the Windows Genuine Validation site and it says that my copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation, which is obviously different than the result from MGADiag. I've searched through the web for various solutions but have yet to solve the problem.

Hello Darin,
There were two solutions posted in that URL. When I followed the first set of solutions (i.e. cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms) it gave an error saying something along the line of VBS cannot be started or something like that.
So I moved on to the next set of instructions (i.e. cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
) and this time when I typed net start slsvc it worked.
So then I restarted and there was a warning saying that Unauthorized Changes were made to Windows and I had to re-enter the product key on the back of my laptop. My control panel and windows update etc. worked fine after the reboot.
As I mentioned before, the product key shown in the WGADiag in the last post was different from the one on my laptop. I ran WGADiag again after the procedure and the product key matched the one on the sticker.
Hope this helps.

Oh never mind, I think I fixed the problem. Probably because Vista's Licensing Store may have been damaged or corrupted.
Please refer to http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/e1e3a82d-46b8-47b5-b09d-9771d22ecda9 for solutions to similar problems.Sunday, August 16, 2009 10:30 PM -
Hi limark2,
Your Issue was a 'Software Licensing Service has Stopped' type, but the steps from that URL are to fix a 'Licensing Store corrupted' issue.
I have never tried using the Licensinf Store fix on a Software Licensing Service has stpped issue, Can you confirm that the steps from that URL you posted, fixed your issue?
Thank you, your response could help me allot,

Hi limark2,
"As I mentioned before, the product key shown in the WGADiag in the last post was different from the one on my laptop. I ran WGADiag again after the procedure and the product key matched the one on the sticker."
Yes, Computers, which are built by large manufactures that come with Vista Pre-Installed, come with two (2) Product Keys:
A) OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Vista, when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the special instructions found only on that Manufacturer's computer hardware. So when Vista was installed using the OEM SLP key (at the factory) Vista looks at the motherboard and sees the special instructions and Self-Activates. (that's why you did not need to Activate your computer after you brought it home)B) COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or bottom) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations. The key must be activated by Phone. (Note: All manufacturers that use the OEM SLP system are required by contract to include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker, that has a COA SLP key, on the computer)
When you ran the WGADiag the first time, the Product Key shown was the OEM SLP key
When you ran the WGADiag the secound time, the Product Key shown was the COA SLP key
Thank you for taking the time to post back and telling us what fixed your issue, that should help others in the future,
