CRM 4.0 Discovery services on a CRM 2011 installation 401 unauthorized RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We have made a regular on premise installation of CRM 2011. We are using SSIS components for migration that make use of the CRM 4 web services (2007).

We are having problems with accessing them after the installation. For instance, we cannot create a service reference in visual studio. We get "The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."

The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information.
Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://crmdev:5555/MSCRMServices/2007/AD/CrmDiscoveryService.asmx'.
The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'.
The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.

This article point out that you should not be able to use the CRM 4 webservices, is that really correct? How can we overcome this?

We tried then to turn on anonymous authentication on the /ad folder in the IIS. Then we get this in the event log:

    Exception information:

    Exception type: ArgumentNullException

Exception message: Value cannot be null.

    Parameter name: sid
