Asked by:
slow performance, now saying windows not genuine

General discussion
-
For the last month my laptop has been very slow, lenovo G550. I thought it might be a virus so I did a scan using Microsoft security essentials but it didn't find anyhing. The slow performance continued and I noticed the green button in essentials had turned red with 'repair' in the window and asking me to validate windows. I clicked on repair, however it said they couldnt validate windows. I then checked the windows update in case there was anything that needed my attention but it wouldnt open. I remove Microsoft essentials and downloaded a free version of AVG which found a trojan on the initial scan, this was removed, however it wouldn't complete a full scan so this was removed. I then used the Microsoft malware scan which took around 2 hours but it found no threats on the computer. I then used the 'fix it' microsoft tool to se if I could troubshoot the issue but came up with the same issues that windows wasnt genuine. The laptop is neatly two years old and we have a windows sticker on the base. I would wipe the latop and start again but retailers are no longer handing out the windows DVD on purchase which is frasturating as it should come with the purchase. Any help would be much appreciated. I have used the genuine tool and pasted the result below;

ALL manufacturers are required to proveide means of returning the machine to ex-factory state - most choose to use Recovery partitions.
Check your manual for details of how to access the Recovery procedure - note that it will almost certainly wipe all data, so back up to external media first!
