USB ports

  My (Windows XP) computer will not read usb keys or an external hard drive. Message from usb keys is "device not formatted", when I know there is data on them - checked on laptop. Howevet usb port with printer attached works OK. Tried Fix it Center etc. Any advice. Problem occurred after morning start up, devices were OK the night before.
