Activating card while subscription is active RRS feed

  • Question

  • I currently have 10 months left on my subscription.  Someone bought me a subscription card, and I'd rather input the code now rather than risk losing it in the next 10 months.  If I do so, will I lose the 10 months and it'll reset now to 12, or will it add 12 giving me 22 months?

  • It will add 12 months to your current expiration date.

This renewal can be performed at any time during your active subscription period.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key from your subscription card.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

  • I think OneCare will add an additional 12 months to the 10 months you already have left on your subscription.  But, I recommend contacting Billing Support for verification before attempting to use the 2nd subscription card.

  • Looks like I beat you by 6 minutes, Jennifer. :-)

You are correct that it will add the 12 months to the existing subscription. Renewal with a key to extend a subscription can be done at any time after the subscription is created. I am pretty sure that you will be limited to a single 12 month renewal, though, so that maximum term would be 24 months if you activated, then renewed within the initial month with a second retail key.

There's no need to contact Billing support unless you encounter a problem getting to the renewal option.
