Questions regarding codec settings within MOC/OCS RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    1. I understand that MOC uses the RT Audio codec. Can it support any other codecs (G.711, G.729) directly without needing a mediation server? If yes,  is there a place to set these codecs within MOC options INSTEAD of the RTAudio codec?

I looked at the communicator.adm file (MOC Group Feature Policies), OCS Administrative console and MOC options but could not find any appropriate setting.

    2. I reviewed the MSFT whitepaper "Overview of the Microsoft RT Audio Speech codec"  available for download at :

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5D79B584-79C9-42A8-90C4-4AB3F03D19C4&displaylang=en

The RTAudio codec has forward error correction encoding mechanism. Is there a setting or parameter within MOC or OCS to turn this on or off?

    Thank you

  • I got an answer from someone in the product group:

There is no codec configuration in the client. The quality controller automatically adjusts to the conditions on the network.

  • About point 1 I've the same question. How can I control the codec used during a phone conversation? How can I configure codec that should be used in the call?

  • Here is an article that was referred to me:

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms997607.aspx

I am not sure if it will help, since it isn't specific to OCS 2007 Public Beta, but might provide some information.

I will try to get more information and post here.
